How to Create Valentine Sugar Cookies
- Gather your ingredients
For the cookies:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter – softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg – room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the icing:
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 teaspoons milk
- food coloring
- 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
2. Make the dough

- Add sugar and then beat until light and fluffy
- Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract and beat until fully combinedBeat butter in a large bowl until creamed and smooth
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- If using stand mixer turn down to low setting and add half of flour mixture, beating until barely combined
- Add the remaining flour mixture
- If dough is too soft add 1 teaspoon of flour at a time for better consistency
- Divide the dough into two equal parts
- Roll each portion onto parchment to about 1/4 inch thickness
- Stack the pieces with the paper onto baking sheet and cool for 1 hour to 1 day
3. Cut and bake the cookies
- Preheat oven to 350
- Remove the dough from fridge and use heart cookie cutter to cut your cookies
- Move cookies to a baking sheet
- Be sure the sheet has parchment paper on it
- Continue rolling and cutting the dough until all dough is used
- Move cookies to a baking sheet
- Bake for 8-11 minutes
- Until lightly colored on top and edges
- Rotate sheet halfway through
- Allow to cool completely before icing
4. Prepare the Icing
- Stir confectioners’ sugar and milk in a small bowl
- Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until glossy
- Add more corn syrup if it is too thick
- Divide the icing into separate bowls to add desired colors to each one
5. Decorate & Share with Your Valentine
- Add frosting and any other decorations you may want to make your cookies beautiful
